Crocheting 4 Kidz was designed to combine my love of crocheting with giving back to two of my favorite charities: Autism Awareness and Curing Childhood Cancer. Childhood Cancer has always been an important charity in my eyes as no child should have to go through that pain and suffering of chemotherapy, surgery, and countless amounts of medication that some insurance companies do not pay for leaving families poverty stricken because medical bills are so high. No family should have to watch their child go through this while medical bills are piling up. I want to be able to help by donating 40% of all proceeds to finding a cure for childhood cancers.
In 2009, my now 9 year old son was diagnosed with autism. He was significantly delayed developmentally, his speech was impaired, his fine and gross motor skills were not on track with his age, and his thought process was so rigid and "stuck" that I immediately had him tested for autism. I worked in the mental health field with children who were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and I had a feeling he would be too. No parent wants to hear those words that their child is diagnosed with autism regardless of how severe or not severe it is. Thankfully for my son, he is able to function normally with his peers and is mainstreamed in school doing pretty well. I became infatuated with Autism Awareness and will be donating 40% of all sales to autism research.
